‘THE JUDGEMENT OF HARRIS’

Presented by South Brent Dramatic Society

Extremely Well Produced

South Brent Dramatic Society presented “The judgement of Harris”, a three-act comedy, in the Church Hall on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday of last week. The play by Parnell Bradbury was extremely well produced. The cast, working as a team, gave a convincing performance; they played with assurance and it was evident that they had been well-directed in the characterisation and grouping. Their costumes were smart and colourful. The lighting, properties and effects were also ably handled.

A well-deserved word of praise must go to the producer Miss Joy Carnochan who had evidently put much good work into the staging and toning of the show. The utmost use has been made of the facilities at hand resulting in a pleasing stage setting. Miss Carnochan is certainly aiming in the right direction in creating a show with such a polish as to lift it above the usual amateur pitfalls. South Brent is to be congratulated on having a society which shows such progressive promise.

The cast was as follows: Winifred Windatt, Miss Moodie; Daisy Rowe, Mrs Winters; Rosalie Smeeth, Helen Carden; George Preston, Sam Harris; Katie Holloway, Mrs Marchant; Marjorie Vaira, Hebe Marchant; William Windatt, Graham Thetford; Carmen Manning, Anthea Sellick;   Les Kidger, Board.

Backstage helpers were: John Piper (Stage Manager); Reginald Rowe (assistant Stage Manager); Betty Mortimore, Rose Watts, Evie Hard, Alma Preston (Properties and Effects); Joan Deedes (Wardrobe); Anita Perkins (Prompter); Wiliam Holloway, Alice Vickery (Booking and Seating); and Alan Perkins (Amplifying Equipment);
