Plays

The Church Hall, South Brent, was full on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday of last week when the South Brent Amateur Dramatic Society presented a three-act play, “Golden Harvest," by Christian Mitchell and a one-act play, "Missing," by Gwyneth Jones. The proceeds of Tuesday evening's performance were for the Dartmoor Hunt. The producer, Miss Joy Carnochan, and the whole of the players are to be congratulated on what was acclaimed a magnificent performance. The Society have certainly lived up to their reputation, and must be well satisfied with the way in which they were supported by the public. It is sufficient to say that all the members of the two costs entered into their various roles with a realistic enthusiasm – not forgetting those behind the scenes, and those responsible for the seating arrangements. The players were as follows: “Golden Harvest”, Anita Perkins, Mary Vesey, Alma Preston, Evie Hard, Molly Chulke, Michael Edwards, Joan Ayres, Nancy Wright, Sally Newman, George Preston, Trevor Jones, Reg Edgecumbe; “Missing,” Rosalie Smeeth, Winifred Windatt, Joan Deedes, Daisy Rowe, Katie Holloway, Margaret Price, Elizabeth Knapman, William Windatt; The plays were produced by Joy Carnochan, music was by Miss Rose Luggar, piano, and Mr Barrow (Rattery), violin, and others assisting were: Stage managers, Julian Deedes and John Piper; effects, Ernest Catt; lighting, William Cranch; prompters, Joan Wakeham and Carmen Manning; bookings and seating, Alice Vickery. The furniture and furnishings for “Golden Harvest” were lent by Mrs Vickery and for “Missing” by Messrs. Reeves and Son, High Street, Totnes. The Officers of the Society are: Mr G Preston, chairman; Mrs A Vickery, hon. secretary; and Mr T Jones, hon. treasurer.
